Smithtown Elementary School is very fortunate to have such dedicated staff members who care about each other and each child. You will find their school community very active working with all children to provide a foundation for students to reach their maximum potential through a comprehensive, exact standard to opportunities to empower children to be independent thinkers, problem solvers, and responsible citizens. School first’s grader curriculum develops students’ understanding of their roles as members of a family and school community across the five strands of the social studies standards: history, geography, economics, citizenship and culture. Students in grade 2 explore rural, urban & suburban communities in the U.S. Students will compare new communities studied with what they know about their own community. e rights & responsibilities of citizenship in the community and the structure of the U.S. government are emphasized.
