P.S. 13 Roberto Clemente School provide individual teaching methods that will best suite each and every student’s ability to comprehend and learn. The students learn all the components of good writing, are involved in research projects, use the computers to assist them in writing and also learn to produce writing on a given topic within a designated period of time. Writing is also integrated into other subject areas. For example, they are expected to write in math to explain how they solved a problem. Assessment occurs through teacher-directed assessments and through a New York State English language arts assessment administered to all grades. Students learn to master the basic concepts of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division as well as application of these skills in problem-solving situations. Students are taught to understand mathematics by communicating and reasoning mathematically, by applying mathematics in real-world settings and by solving problems through the integrated study of number systems, geometry, measurement, probability, data collection and analysis.
