Phillips Avenue School students benefit from a well-rounded elementary program. Teachers work diligently to carefully blend the best practices of teacher-directed and student-centered instruction in their classrooms. During the past several years, the staff has participated in an intensive curriculum review. Phillips curriculum encourages writing across the curriculum, critical thinking and engages students in a hands-on science program. The school's Library/Media Specialist enables students SmartBoard technology, an interactive classroom tool that integrates the use of computers and the internet with the curriculum to improve teaching and learning. The teachers work to prepare students to deal effectively with the challenge and an ever-changing society and to guide them in becoming humane critical thinkers, decision makers, and problem solvers.
