At Hyde Park Elementary School, assigning a student to a classroom is not just pick and choose or pull a name out of a hat. A team approach is used that includes the principal, the teacher of the student at the present time, teachers at the next grade level, special area teachers, ESL teachers, and special education teachers. There are many aspects taken into consideration prior to placing a student into a new classroom, which include the student’s current academic level, their personality, weaknesses, strengths, gender, behavior record and their ability to get along with other classmates. This is the best way in which to ensure each student receives the best possible education at Hyde Park Elementary School.
Along with unique placement team, Hyde Park Elementary School offers a child study team, which is link between the teacher and parents of the student. The child study team was designed especially for students that are experiencing difficulties. The team will keep an eye on the student’s progress. At the appropriate time, a meeting will be scheduled to address the concerns and the course of action. The child study team is made up of the principal, School Psychologist, Resource Teacher Consultant, Math Assistant, Speech Therapist, Classroom Teacher or Referred Child, Special Area Teacher Rep., and the Classroom Teacher Rep.
