Farnsworth Middle School is located in Guilderland, New York, just west of Albany. Students are divided into teams located in four houses: Hiawatha, Mohawk, Seneca, and Tawasentha. Farnsworth also boasts a planetarium, two greenhouses, and a Project Adventure course. We also are involved in preserving the Pine Bush and the Karner Blue butterfly. Middle School students develop the competence and confidence necessary to explore and refine their individual interests. Students are currently organized into four "houses" - Hiawatha, Mohawk, Seneca, and Tawasentha - and in grade level teams within each house.
The Farnsworth Middle School staff is very creative and they have developed an Academic Interdisciplinary Period or (AIP) that eliminates the need for many of the pullout programs and provides an interlude for students to focus on their special interests or needs. A particular concern at Farnsworth Middle School is that students exhibit the ability to understand the writing process and display mastery before they graduate and advance to high school. Other top concerns are the refinement of reading, listening, and critical thinking skills. Farnsworth Middle School, students build on this foundation as they continue their educational growth. All students enroll in a second language French, German or Spanish in sixth grade and may enroll in Regents-level math and science courses in eighth grade.
