Comprehensive Night High School of Brooklyn Opened as the South Shore High School in 1970 in southeastern Brooklyn, the Comprehensive Night High School of Brooklyn was one of the two public high schools within this borough that attended a population of nearly 4,000 students in grade levels 09 to 12, although a student population of 6,800 was reported before it was phased out.
This school provided 13 class periods a day from afternoon-early evening to early-late morning, becoming the second largest high school of America, facing a series of incidents and riots inside and out the school including a student shot to death off campus in 1987 and another stabbed in stairwell in 1992.
The South Shore High School closed its doors in June 2008, but its former campus comprises today four smaller schools known since 2002 as the Comprehensive Night High School of Brooklyn, institution open to New York City residents 18-21 years of age.
