Oceanside Union Free School District Committees have the responsibility to ensure that all necessary procedures for the identification, evaluation, classification, placement and annual review of the status and progress of every student with a disability are carried out in accordance with federal and state law and regulations. Subcommittees are authorized to perform the functions of the Committee on Special Education except when a student is considered for a more restrictive environment or initial placement.

The Board of Education of the Oceanside Union Free District, as a part of a long standing commitment to excellence in education for all students, supports the provision of special education and related services for students with disabilities under the auspices of the Committee on Special Education and the Committee on Preschool Special Education.
The District provides a wide continuum of services, ranging from placement in residential settings to placement in general education classes with support and related services. The District is committed to the policy of placing students in the least restrictive environment consistent with their needs.
