Long Beach City Schools

Long Beach City School District students are taught to become responsible for and respectful of their own things and those that belongs to other children and to the school. The children are taught to work together and learn to cooperate with each other. They practice self-help skills and gain independence, responsibility, respect and reliability.
Long Beach City School teachers involve the children actively in many meaningful, functional language experiences, including speaking, listening, writing and reading. Teachers acknowledge the differences in language and cultural backgrounds and emphasize reading as an integral part of the total curriculum.

Long Beach Public Schools have developed a number of experiences for the elementary school youngsters which demonstrate that the excitement of discovery is right in our backyard. Naturalists from BOCES work with the classroom teachers to design grade-level appropriate programs using the environment around us. Introduction to the unit of discovery begins in the classroom and then the class goes outside to apply what they have learned.
