Florida Union Free School District is located at 51 North Main Street Florida, NY and it serves grades K-12 in Orange County. School Psychologists play a major role in prevention, intervention and remediation of school problems. They help identify and evaluate children with emotional, social, behavioral and learning disorders; provide short-term or group counseling; and serve as a resource to staff and parents in working with children with special needs.

The voters of the District elect the members of the Board of Education to three-year terms of office. Candidates for the Board run "at-large" rather than for a specific seat. School board members serve without pay. The duties of the Board of Education are set forth in education law. Establishing district policy is one of the most important functions of the Board. Insuring compliance with state and federal mandates, judicial decisions and other regulatory agencies is another required board function.

Some of the Florida Union Free School District goals are: To support the development and implementation of a district system of data analysis of all state, standardized and local assessments in order to strengthen curriculum practices which will increase student achievement. This system will create longitudinal monitoring of individual students to offer necessary supports and interventions. To continue to build the home/school/community communication process with an emphasis on increasing public knowledge of what items are included in our budget and how the budget is created in a fiscally responsible process. To improve the process of student transition from grades 5 & 6 into grades 7 & 8. To finalize plans regarding the athletic fields in the district. To continue the pro-active, long-term plan to accommodate potential increases in our student population.
