Yonkers High School students who have chosen to be apart of this academic community must possess a strong sense of motivation, and students and their parents must affirm their commitment to the high standards of a program of this kind. Students need to grow in order to become successful in all they endeavor throughout life. The School is committed to providing a caring, equitable environment with high expectations for learning. Differentiated instruction and curriculum compacting, address individual the student’s academic strengths, encouraging a student to explore subjects in much greater depth.
Each student is required to take English, foreign language, mathematics, science, humanities and the arts Students are further required to complete the Theory of Knowledge course, a two-year interdisciplinary seminar, intended to relate learning from disciplines to concepts, historical events, current events and issues of importance; present an Extended Essay, a 4,000 word research project; complete the requirements for Creativity, Action, Service, independently fulfilling 150 hours of extracurricular and/or service activities; and take high level IB examinations in individual subjects.
Yonkers High School holds high expectations for every student and encourages them to strive for personal excellence.
