Verne W. Critz Elementary School staff and teachers alike realize all students can learn and are committed to providing a learning environment that will speak to the total student, which means they cater to the academic, emotional, social, cultural, and physical well-being of each and every student. The teachers monitor student’s advancements in reading skills that include phonemic awareness and the ability to hear sounds in words. Word study how students perform with recognizing the relationship between the sounds that letters make and the letters in print. Fluency is observed to see the student’s ability to read smoothly and with expression. Vocabulary, use of words and comprehension for the student’s ability to understand what is read. Children attending Verne W. Critz Elementary will experience a rich curriculum which embodies the New York State standards while teaching to both the academic and social sides of children.
