South Street School desires for students high academic achievement and the integration of social skills. South Street School is an active and enjoyable setting for the students. Parents are frequently involved as volunteers in their child's classroom and other programs offered through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA). In addition to social studies, math, science and language arts, students participate in a variety of special area classes including: reading, art, music, computers, technology, home and careers, physical education, band and chorus. A number of formal and informal programs are offered to help students who have difficulty learning, as well as for those students with disabilities. Learning programs are based on a developmental approach to learning. The center-based promotes the physical, social, emotional, and intellectual growth of each child. Teachers work to promote self-esteem and self-confidence, acceptance, belonging, trust, and friendship.
