Public School 19 is part of the City School District of Albany and it is located at 369 New Scotland Avenue. The school is undergoing renovation in order to provide students the learning atmosphere necessary for learning in the 21st century. The mission of School 19 is to provide students the necessary environment for learning with assistance from educators, parents, teachers, students, and the community. School 19 promotes self discipline, self confidence, and reaching one’s academic as well as emotional potential. Students displaced from School 19 for the renovations should be able to return for the 2008-09 school year.
The City School District of Albany's comprehensive facilities plan also includes the complete renovation and expansion of Public School 19.
The existing school is too small to support student enrollment and current educational requirements.
School 19 is scheduled for renovation as a three-deep school. It will also be expanded to include the addition of a cafeteria and gym. Students and staff moved out of the building in June 2007, and will move back in to the renovated school in January 2009.
