Rosmarie Ann Siragusa School uses comprehensive, inquiry-based approach to teaching and learning using research and best practices from international schools. As an authorized International Baccalaureate Primary Years Programme. Rosmarie Ann was the first public school to be authorized to offer the PYP in New York State. Your child will receive a challenging, meaningful, relevant international education at their school. Guided inquiry and concept-driven learning are the foundation of our educational philosophy. The Tran disciplinary themes provide a framework for the school’s program of inquiry. These areas encompass a body of knowledge that will further our goal to foster international students.
Students will read and listen to oral, written and electronically produced texts and performances, relate texts and performances to their own lives, and develop an understanding of the diverse social, historical, and cultural dimensions the texts and performances represent. As speakers and writers, students will use oral and written language for self-expression and artistic creation.
Teachers on each grade level create units of inquiry within each theme. Grades kindergarten through five creates and implements six units for each theme, whereas pre-kindergarten created and implement units for four of the themes. One of the fifth grade themes will be taught throughout most of the year as their exhibition unit. The exhibition is a PYP culminating activity in which the students take responsibility for their learning and engage in an inquiry that is collaborative in nature and deals with authentic issues and possible solutions. The units of inquiry within each theme should be significant, relevant, engaging, and challenging.
