In 1789 Roscoe was called Westfield Flats. It was the home of the Delaware Indians, where panthers and wolves roamed freely. Anglers from many parts of the world come for its exceptionally fine fishing along with the Willowmoc and Beaverkill Rivers and their tributaries.
The Roscoe Central School, which opened in 1939, serves students from the Western Sullivan and Eastern Delaware Counties. Situated between the hamlets of Livingston Manor and Downsville, students Pre k-12 from the towns of Rockland, Colchester, Hancock, Fremont and Callicoon attend classes at Roscoe Central School.
