Raphael J. Mcnulty Academy for International Studies and Literacy is located at 60 Brandt Place Amsterdam, NY and provides education for grades PK-5. This New York public school is governed by the Amsterdam City School District in Montgomery County. The mission of the Raphael J. McNulty Elementary School community is to prepare students in academic, civic, and social responsibilities through cooperation and communication. The dedicated staff will enable every child to learn life skills and appropriate curriculum in a safe, inviting environment.
Raphael J. McNulty Elementary School was opened in the fall of 1964. Our school was named after a former Superintendent. In 2005, the Board of Education named McNulty as the site of the district's first magnet school. The name was changed to the Raphael J. McNulty Academy for International Studies and Literacy to reflect the school's new emphasis.
Raphael J. Mcnulty thinks that as kids become better problem solvers and more critical thinkers, their self-esteem is boosted and they are more willing to participate in their regular classroom discussions. Students are never told exactly how to proceed in each activity; instead, they must read to understand directions and develop strategies in order to succeed. They are constantly challenged to devise strategies to solve real-life problems, and to verbalize their methods.
