P.S. 97 teachers work to awaken student’s intellectual curiosity through experiential learning; focusing on the skills needed to gather, analyze, and communicate information. The children are actively involved in extensive, hands on projects requiring the use of state of the art technology; enabling them to become productive citizens of an ever changing global society. Research-based best practices are used in reading, the writing process, mathematics, science and social studies. Reading, writing and mathematics are taught in extended blocks of time to practice and apply skills. P.S. 97 communities continue to supports programs such as the local library, local churches, and community service organizations. The community spirit has promoted a sense of commitment to the school district, which serves as a community center and a source of pride for all, including senior citizens and other local residents.
