Martin Van Buren Elementary School is located at 25 Broad Street Kinderhook, NY. This school accepts students from grades 3 through 5 in Columbia County of New York. In addition to social studies, math, science and language arts, students participate in a variety of special area classes including: reading, art, music, computers, technology, home and careers, physical education, band and chorus. A number of formal and informal programs are offered to help students who have difficulty learning, as well as for those students with disabilities.
Students with special needs have a full compendium of service providers to assist them. These include a speech and language therapist, counselors, and remedial reading and math teachers, as well as adaptive physical education, occupational and physical therapy services.
Open communication between home and school is encouraged. Formal reports to parents occur on a 10-week basis. Parent/Teacher conferences are scheduled for all students in November and as needed with each report card distribution. A special "Morning Program" is offered every Wednesday at 9:10 a.m. with parents and community members invited.
The Primary School is an active and enjoyable setting for the students. Parents are frequently involved as volunteers in their child's classroom and other programs offered through the Parent Teacher Association (PTA).
