Leo Bernabi School applies the Academic Intervention Services (AIS) for English Language Arts, is a state mandated program currently available to students in grades k-5. AIS is a support service provided in addition to regular classroom instruction, for students who have not met our district's benchmarks or the New York State standards in ELA, Social Studies, and/or Science. In this program students will generally receive small group instruction tailored to their learning needs. At the first grade level Reading Recovery is an additional component of AIS.
Criteria such as student's daily class work, report card grades, and state/individual tests help to determine student’s eligibility for AIS. Classroom teachers and AIS staff collaborate to evaluate this criterion to receive this service. Students are selected for Reading Recovery using Observation Surveys, classroom teacher observations, and classroom performance.
