Kent Phillips Elementary School

About
Kent Phillips Elementary School
Kent W. Phillips Elementary School is located at 120 Corning Boulevard Corning, NY serving grades K-5 in Steuben County. The Elementary Enrichment Program is for qualifying Gifted and Talented students in 2nd through 5th grades. The students have the opportunity to meet one day a week in their own school in small groups over the course of one semester. The program is three days a week: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, and the students have enrichment for one and a half hours.

This Elementary school has a Building Leadership Team (BLT). The Building Leadership Team’s main function is to review the school’s current student achievement levels and make recommendations for improvements. Each year the school staff and BLT develop a School Improvement Plan to address these needs with clear objectives and action plans. The BLT monitors this plan throughout the school year and reports year-end progress to staff and parents. Check out this year’s School Improvement Plan.

The Corning-Painted Post Area School District has recently adopted a new reading program from Kindergarten through Grade 5. This is due to the challenges faced by the educators and students in the Corning-Painted Post community are shared by school districts across the United States. Public schools are facing what some have called a crisis of low student expectation and achievement, as well as high drop-out rates.

The staff of teachers and other officials works closely with parents and the entire community to provide the best education possible for students. And students really excel in this learning environment that affords good class sizes, positive community support, individual attention, and encouragement which help all students strive for excellence.
