John T. Waugh Elementary School has a commitment to educate every student to his or her fullest potential following Character Education traits. Students at John T. Waugh are recognized for showing respect by receiving their name and picture on the Space of Character Bulletin board, which is found in the main hallway on the first floor of the school. Along with various recognition programs, John T. Waugh Elementary School emphasizes on positive behavior with precise programs that reinforce respect and responsibility. Along with the one mentioned above the school works with monthly themes that promote positive characteristics such as citizenship, respect, responsibility, caring, tolerance, honesty, trustworthiness, diligence, courage, and fairness.

In order to attain the prestige of being on the Space of Character bulletin board students must adhere to the five basic rules seen throughout the districts elementary schools which include keeping our hands, feet, and objects to ourselves, following teacher directions the first time they are given, being responsible for things we say and do, being safe in our school, and listening to others and using kind words.
