Berry Hill Elementary School 4th graders are being taught curriculum highlights local political institutions, and historical developments with connections to NYS & United States history. It studies the structure and functions of the die rent branches of local government & the rights and responsibilities of citizens. It explores such themes as: the European Encounter, the colonial & Revolutionary War periods, the new nation, the period of industrial growth & expansion in NYS and local & state government. The fifth grade curriculum stresses the understanding of history, geography, economics, citizenship, and cultures related to the Western Hemisphere - the United States, Canada and Latin America. The grade 5 social studies core also builds on and reinforces geographical and political content about the U.S.
