Yonkers City Schools
Yonkers City School District is a massive public school system with its Board of Education over seeing and making policies for the 40 schools in their jurisdiction. Members to this school board receive their appointment by the Mayor and they serve without receiving any pay for sitting on the School Board. The Yonkers City School District is filled with students from over 60 nationalities and diverse cultures.
Yonkers schools serve the fourth largest city in New York State for educating grades PK-12, and it is filled with lively neighborhoods and commerce. The community has a diversity of churches and other religious organizations. Its housing market is considered to be strong with most every type of home dwellings available from family homes to high rise rentals. Outdoor opportunities for recreation is endless as Yonkers has 70 parks, 50 outdoor basketball courts, hiking trails, fishing and so many other activities to enjoy in the area.
Students who attend this district will learn from Yonkers standards that provide strong core curricula in English Language Arts; Mathematics; Science and Technology; Social Studies; Languages Other Than English; Physical Education, Health, and Family Consumer Sciences; The Arts; and Career Development and Occupational Studies. District Philosophies are set in place that help students understand subject matter and achieve academic achievement.
