Spencerport Central School District is located at 71 Lyell Avenue Spencerport, NY and it provides education for grades K-12. The District maintains an active partnership with the Town of Ogden in sharing athletic fields and school facilities. The District has a history of active community involvement with residents' input sought for budget advisory committees, key leader search committees, planning teams and sports and extra-curricular involvement.
The District also values open communication with residents. The Cornerstone is the District's newsletter, which provides valuable information about educational issues and school events. The Board of Education meetings, which take place twice a month, are open to the public, with an opportunity for input. Community residents also volunteer on a number of District advisory councils in areas such as technology, health, school-to-career and the gifted and honors program.
Historically the Village of Spencerport is located in western New York State about ten miles west of Rochester. Prior to the building of the Erie Canal was just another farm. The farm, through which the canal passed at the Canawaugus Road, had been purchased by Daniel Spencer in 1804 and was sold off to become the first village lots. The village began about a mile and a half north of Ogden Center where business had begun to flourish. From that moment on, however, business in Ogden Center decreased and that of the new canal port increased.
