Port Jervis City Schools

Port Jervis City School District is located at 9 Thompson Street Port Jervis, NY and it serves grades K-12 in Orange County. The city sits on the majestic Delaware River in the valley of the Northern Appalachian Mountains, the City's scenic and historic attractions makes it both a favorite tourist destination and great place for residents to live, work, and play. The Port Jervis School District has always promoted initiatives to enhance academic excellence. One of the most recent initiatives is a commitment to provide technology throughout the district. In addition to traditional computer labs, Smart Board technology, Alpha Smart computer interface, and mobile wireless labs are available in the schools.

The entire district is connected to a wide-area network that connects each classroom to the Internet via a fiber optic ring. This enables teachers to input grades, IEP goals, and objectives from their home or classroom computer directly to guidance. Other recent achievements aimed toward improving the quality of instruction and student performance include a quality teacher in-service program and the introduction of exclusionary teaching models. This includes a series of workshops has been designed to specifically address the needs of new teachers.

Additionally, the district is undergoing a capital building project to alleviate space constraints, while actively pursuing a class-size reduction program in grades K-3. In order to help students meet the demands of the New York State assessments, the district provided academic assistance programs for at-risk students prior to the current state mandates.
