Lyons Central School District is located at 10 Clyde Road Lyons, NY serving grades Pk-12 in Wayne County. Lyons is a friendly, rural community of approximately 6000 with two-thirds of the population residing in the village. Located along the Historic Erie Canal, Lyons serves as the Wayne County Seat and is home to several sites such as the Wayne County Court House and the Wayne County Museum. It’s the intent of this district to rally around the educational philosophy to encourage the development of critical thinking, self esteem, and responsible people of tomorrow. In addition, they are committed to having high expectations for students to excel in learning.
Wayne County offers a distinctive blend of urban amenities that include; Golf, Parks, Skiing, Hunting, Chimney Bluffs, Seaway Trail, Snowmobile, Erie Canal and Nature adventure. . The District Officials recognize the uniqueness of each student, the school staff pledges to foster a desire for educational excellence that will help students achieve their full potential intellectually, physically, socially, morally and culturally. Acknowledging the rapid social, cultural, economical, political and technological changes in American society, the school encourages innovative courses, programs and activities designed to help our students to deal competently with these changes and to prepare them for effective citizenship.
Historically, Wayne County was originally included in lands of Ontario and Seneca Counties; it became a separate county on April 11, 1823. The county’s history actually begins long before 1823. Some of Wayne County’s early arrivals were veterans of the Revolution who came to take up claims in the Military Tract.
