Herkimer Schools

Herkimer Central School District is located at 801 West German Street Herkimer, NY. Parents and members of the community are encouraged to attend and participate at public Board of Education meetings, and the Herkimer Central School District provides education for grades K through 12. The Village of Herkimer is located in Central New York, half way between Syracuse and Albany in Herkimer County. The village is named after the Herkimers who settled in this area, the most notable one being Nicholas Herkimer, a general of the Tryon County militia, who died from wounds received at the Battle of Oriskany in the American Revolutionary War.

The Herkimer Central School District Technology Plan provides the teachers additional resources to fulfill the needs of all students. Through the use of technology, teachers incorporate an array of educational software into the curriculum. Both the technology and the curriculum continue to evolve and thus enrich the learning potential of every student.

Incorporating technology into the curriculum requires careful planning, staff development and administrative support. This Technology Plan is based on the belief that a well-designed computer-based technology curriculum will encourage learning and benefit all disciplines. The heart of the Technology Plan focuses on teacher training, curriculum design, instruction, expansion, communication, student data management, and parent and community involvement. New technological developments, are continually being studied and evaluated and will be incorporated into the Technology Plan.

The District must prepare its students for the technological environment they will meet in the years ahead. Only by continually assessing the technological landscape and its implications for learning can we design curricula that will effectively prepare our students for the future.
