Dover Schools
Dover Union Free School District is located at 2368 Route 22 Dover Plains, NY. This school district is in the County of Dutchess, in the great State of New York. Dover Plains is a hamlet and this school provides education for grades K through 12. The district is not very large and class room sizes are small and comfortable for learning.
Continual program enhancements, along with the staff strive for excellence in providing education to its students. Facility upgrades, technology enhancements, the implementation of full day kindergarten, the addition of numerous extra curricular activities, ample support programs, and small class size are some of the most recent and ongoing efforts in the district. From the spotless buildings and grounds, to the warm and welcoming school climate and a caring, hard-working and innovative staff, it is evident that the Dover Schools are a wonderful place to be.
Historically Dover in the early twentieth century became a haven for painters who captured the scenic beauty of our rivers, fields, farms and country life on canvas. History first recorded that the hills and valleys of early Dover were areas of open forests, thick swamps and sparkling waters, inhabited by several groups of Indians. Those Native Americans were the Schaghticoke and remnants of the Pequots who lived in the rugged hills surrounding the narrow valley of the Ten Mile River.
Today, the Town of Dover is contemplating ideas to keep its distinctive environment with its scenic views, open space and rural character, while encouraging growth.
