The district offers state-of-art learning technologies for students that ensure proper competitive development with emphasis on achieving an individual’s full potential. This district provides education for grades K through 12 for residents who live in Cortland County. The district at the present time is busy upgrading some of the buildings which additionally includes health and safety improvements, security, and upgrades to improve the educational program. It feels that for better education the
key is staying current with the latest program and facilities trends, and taking the best advantage of economic conditions and the availability of state funding.
Historically Cortland County is located in the glaciated Appalachian Plateau area of Central New York, midway between Syracuse and Binghamton. This predominantly rural county is the southeastern gateway to the Finger Lakes Region. The county's present reflects its past. Agri-business flourishes yet, consistent with the pattern elsewhere in New York State, the number of farms has declined while acreage per farm and yield per acre have increased. Continued growth in the service and light industry sectors is contributing to the growing strength of the Central New York region.
The City of Cortland, settled in 1791, was incorporated in 1900 as the 41st city in the State of New York. Known as the "Crown City" because of its location on a plain formed by the convergence of seven valleys, Cortland is situated about 1,130 feet above sea level, making it the uppermost city to crown the state.
