Beacon City Schools
Beacon City School District is located at 10 Education Drive Beacon, NY. This public school system services the education needs of Beacon City, FishKill, and Wappingers in the county of Dutchess in New York State. The City of Beacon is located in the southwest corner of Dutchess County, in the fast growing Mid-Hudson Region. It sits just over an hour north of New York City, about 59 miles, in its northern suburbs. It is also located approximately 90 miles south of Albany.
The district has four elementary schools, a middle school, a high school, and the administration building. Students attend this school system for educations in grades PK through 12. The School Boards plan is to enable all children to meet high and challenging educational standards through quality programs and support services which promote the intellectual, physical and cultural well-being of diverse students and families in the local community.
Beacon Schools are classified by the state as a high need district for building aid purposes. So they are receiving additional funding from the Excel Program. It is a new state program established specifically to provide districts with additional funding for certain types of school construction/renovation projects.
The district has set benchmarks for teachers to meet such as incorporating student learning experiences designed to achieve the following cross-curricular learning standards, as they are enabling performance standards in any discipline. Teachers will plan lessons designed to achieve this goal and will assess student improvement in literacy throughout the year.
